Police in Almaty are investigating the murder of a 61-year-old local resident, details of which emerged from surveillance camera footage. The video shows a man being carried out of an apartment building with a bag over his head, slung over someone's shoulder. Neighbors of the victim have shared shocking details, reports infohub.kz.
A video previously circulated on social media showing two young men entering the building and talking about something. Later, one of them carries out a man with a bag over his head on his shoulder. Today, Almaty police announced that four people have been detained in connection with the murder of the 61-year-old resident.
Neighbors of the victim told a TV channel how the shocking video became public. According to residents, one of them lost the key to his mailbox and decided to check the surveillance camera footage. What he saw left him in shock. The recording then spread across social media and sparked widespread public outcry.
According to neighbors, everything happened early in the morning on September 30. They say that shortly before, unknown individuals had been inspecting the building, and then the mailbox keys disappeared. Later, residents learned that the missing man's apartment had already been sold.
"The man lived quietly, didn't bother anyone. And we just lost him. He went out every day, came back, went to the store. And now he's gone. We had just talked about it. Then we see on Saturday they're taking things out. Then we watched the video, and it turns out they carried him out, excuse me, like a sheep on their shoulder. They killed him," said neighbor Nadezhda Sycheva.
According to neighbors, the man's name was Sergey. He had lived in the building for a long time, kept to himself, and hardly communicated with anyone, mostly going out only to shop.
"We started watching the video and saw that on the 29th they were rummaging around in the mailbox, specifically apartment five. And on the 30th we saw that he was slung over a shoulder and carried out. Well, that's when we raised the alarm. He never bothered us at all," said neighbor Irina Limareva.
Many questions remain unanswered. The investigation is being handled by a special investigative task force of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which includes the most experienced officers. The case is under the ministry's special control.
