Almaty has around 2,000 waste collection sites, and simply hauling away the trash is not enough to maintain them — utility services are required to provide full sanitary care, infohub.kz reports.
According to the city administration, these sites hold about 10,000 containers, each of which must be regularly washed and disinfected.
In addition, the area around the bins must be treated for rodents. The administration stressed that there should be no separate line item in utility bills for this procedure: washing containers and cleaning around waste sites are already included in municipal sanitary services.
"If sanitary treatment at your container site is not being carried out properly, you can call: +7 707 184 4938. Cleanliness in the yard starts with order at the container site," the administration said.
Earlier, Kursiv LifeStyle reported that a new Eco-Hub opened in Almaty's Zhetysu district, where residents can drop off waste for separate collection. It is the third such space in the city.
