Almaty continues to experience high air temperatures, and animals are feeling the heat the most. The city's zoo has shared its methods for helping its residents cope with the summer heat, reports infohub.kz.
In its Instagram account, the Almaty Zoo posted a video showing how different animal species are dealing with the abnormally hot days. Polar bear Purga, hippos, tapirs, and tigers cool off in pools, splashing around for hours. Rhinos prefer mud baths, which not only help them cool down but also protect their skin from the sun and insects.
"Elephants enjoy dust baths - it's their natural way to stay cool. For camels, llamas, horses, yaks, bison, and big and small cats, we've set up refreshing water mist to help them better tolerate high temperatures," the zoo explained.
Some animals receive a special summer treat - fruit ice cream made from apricots, apples, cherries, and raspberries. Chimpanzees Pasha and Lola especially love it, happily indulging in this cool dessert.
Today, the average temperature in Almaty is expected to be +32 degrees Celsius. During the day, the air may warm up to +39 degrees, according to weather forecasters.
