In Almaty's Turksib district, patrol police officers detained a 26-year-old man who tried to flee from law enforcement and discarded a suspicious item along the way, infohub.kz reports.
According to the city's Police Department, the patrol crew "Buran-811" was on duty in a square along the Bolshoy Almatinsky Canal. The behavior of a stranger drew the officers' attention. The man attempted to run away but did not get far—he was quickly blocked and detained. The item he discarded during the chase raised further questions.
According to preliminary data, it contained an oily substance that the detainee himself called cannabis oil. However, its composition still needs to be determined by experts.
An investigative-operational team from the Turksib district Police Department arrived at the scene. The substance was seized in accordance with established procedural order and sent for forensic chemical examination.
The detainee is 26 years old. He is a resident of Almaty region who, according to his words, temporarily works at a construction site. The origin of the substance, its composition, and possible connection to prohibited substances will be established during the examination, police added.
