ALT University named after Mukhamedzhan Tynyshpaev has launched an internal review following media reports that it may have paid for the education of its leadership's children at the private school Haileybury, reports infohub.kz.
The reports were published on the Telegram channel "Letters to the President." The author claims to have obtained "accounting documents" from Almaty that allegedly confirm such expenses. However, the authenticity of these documents has not been verified.
The editorial team contacted the university for comment. ALT University stated that the materials presented are not officially certified financial documents, but they have decided to conduct their own investigation.
"The materials presented in the publications do not contain signatures, seals, or other signs of officially certified financial documents. The university is currently conducting an internal review," the university commented.
The university also emphasized that it is a private educational institution, and its income comes from several sources, not just state grants.
"JSC 'ALT University named after Mukhamedzhan Tynyshpaev' is a private higher education institution. The university's financial activities are carried out through various sources, including the provision of paid educational services and commercial activities, and are not limited to funds allocated under state educational grants," the comment reads.
The university expressed its readiness to cooperate with the media and its interest in an objective examination of the situation, but urged reliance on verified data.
"The university is open to interaction with the media and is interested in an objective review of this issue. At the same time, it considers it fundamentally important that the public dissemination of information be based on verified facts and official documents, rather than assumptions and one-sided interpretation of materials," the university stated.
ALT University also warned that it may resort to legal means to protect its business reputation if the disseminated information turns out to be false. The internal review is ongoing, and the university has not yet reported its results.
