Carol Fair, American Airlines' oldest flight attendant, has retired at the age of 83, completing her final flight to Charlotte, People reports, according to infohub.kz.
The aircraft carrying the flight attendant landed at Charlotte Douglas International Airport after a flight from London. On the runway, the plane was greeted with a traditional water arch from fire hoses. Colleagues and passengers gave the aviation veteran a ceremonial send-off, presenting her with flowers, a commemorative sash and a crown in honor of her record-setting career in civil aviation.
Fair began her career back in 1963 at Piedmont Airlines, which later became part of American Airlines. She initially planned to work as a flight attendant for just six months, but she fell in love with the profession and devoted her life to flying. Over six decades of work, she rose to first place on the company's overall seniority list of flight crew members.
During her final flight, the flight attendant thanked passengers and offered words of advice to younger colleagues. According to her, the most important thing in the flight attendant profession is to stay persistent at the start of the journey and to genuinely love what you do. The 83-year-old American now plans to devote her free time to family and rest.
