London's High Court has ordered Mitch Winehouse to cover the legal costs of his late daughter Amy Winehouse's close friends, after he lost a lawsuit accusing them of illegally selling the singer's personal belongings, according to infohub.kz.
The legal battle between the father and the friends ended in a complete defeat for Mitch. The court ordered him to pay $2.7 million in damages and legal fees.
Mitch Winehouse had filed a lawsuit, alleging that the women had no right to auction 155 of Amy's personal items—including clothing, ballet shoes, jewelry, and a dress from her 2011 tour—in the United States between 2021 and 2023. The auctions raised more than $1.4 million. He claimed the friends concealed the sales and kept the proceeds.
However, Judge Sarah Clark ruled that Mitch was aware of the women's intentions from the start and only brought the case after the auctions concluded. She described his lawsuit as weak and aggressive, noting that Amy Winehouse was always generous to those close to her and frequently gave them gifts. The court ruled that Mitch must cover the defendants' expenses, as his actions damaged their reputation and health.
