American boxer Andy Ruiz Jr. suffered a points defeat to Poland's Damian Knysba at a tournament in the United States, reports infohub.kz.
The heavyweight bout (over 90.7 kg) was the main event of the show in Newark and went the full 12 rounds. In the seventh round, Knysba knocked down his opponent, but Ruiz managed to continue.
In the end, the Pole won by unanimous decision — 114:113, 117:110, 114:113. Thus, Knysba avenged his first career loss, which he suffered in January to Germany's Agit Kabayel. The 30-year-old now has 18 wins (11 by knockout).
For Ruiz Jr., this was his first fight in two years, and he suffered his third professional defeat. He had previously lost on points to New Zealand's Joseph Parker and Britain's Anthony Joshua.
The 36-year-old American now has 35 wins (22 by knockout) and one draw. In 2019, he was world champion in the WBA, IBF, WBO, and IBO versions.
