A powerful tornado struck a construction site in the Turkish city of Antalya, destroying workers' containers and killing four people, the website infohub.kz reports.
The tornado killed four workers at a construction site in the Kepez district. The twister damaged building structures and destroyed the containers where employees were staying.
Antalya Governor Hulusi Şahin said two workers died at the scene and two more died in hospitals where they were taken with injuries. Another person was injured and is in satisfactory condition.
"We are dealing with a very interesting natural phenomenon; there were no reports of a tornado in another part of the city," the governor said.
According to him, a crane also overturned as a result of the storm, but no one was hurt beneath it. Şahin expressed his condolences to the families of the victims.
The governor noted that there was no damage to neighboring buildings — the storm affected only this site, where the tornado literally tore two containers apart. "Unfortunately, two of our workers died at the scene and two more in the hospitals where they were taken," TRT Haber quoted him as saying.
Turkey's meteorological service had earlier issued a "yellow" level warning for heavy rain in Antalya. Search operations at the construction site are continuing.
