The case involving the murder of 21-year-old Nurzhan Serikbay is set for a new court hearing. The defense of Sherkhan Aymakhan, who was sentenced to life imprisonment, has filed an appeal, according to infohub.kz.
This was announced by the lawyer for the victim's side, Ayanhan Omarov. According to him, the case will now be reviewed by the appellate court.
"In the Nurzhan case, the defense lawyers of the convicted Aymakhan Sherkhan have filed an appeal. I will study it and prepare objections. The case will now be heard in the appellate court," Omarov said on Threads.
The lawyer for the victim's side has not yet specified what arguments the defense presented in the appeal and what they are seeking.
Recall that the tragedy occurred on January 11, 2026, in Shymkent. According to the investigation, Aymakhan, 28, who was previously acquainted with the girl, ambushed Nurzhan Serikbay near a store and inflicted several fatal knife wounds.
After committing the crime, the attacker tried to flee, but was soon detained about 10 km from the city and placed in a pre-trial detention center.
Sherkhan Aymakhan was previously found guilty of murdering 21-year-old Nurzhan Serikbay and sentenced to life imprisonment. Now the sentence will be reviewed by the appellate court.
