Apple is weighing the launch of home robots capable of handling everyday household chores, including folding laundry, Gizmodo reports, according to infohub.kz.
The company's new chief executive, John Ternus, has shown interest in developing mechanical household helpers. Alongside a tabletop smart display on a movable arm that resembles the lamp from Pixar's logo, Cupertino has turned its attention to robotizing household chores.
The idea of handing laundry-folding duties to machines is not new: other brands, such as LG, SwitchBot and Unitree, have already shown similar concepts. Apple, however, has never released consumer robots before.
Yet realizing these ambitions comes with difficulties. The hardware for Apple's first robotic device — a screen on a motorized arm — was ready about two years ago, but the software team is lagging behind the engineers. The product's release was initially slated for this year, but has now been pushed to next year or even 2028.
The main challenge remains finding a practical use. Potential buyers will be hard to convince of the gadget's value at an estimated price of around $1,000 if the device turns out to be merely a rotating screen on a stand without clear and useful use cases.
