An unusual deal was struck at a festival in Kyrgyzstan dedicated to the development of meat-and-fat sheep of the Arashan breed: a ram of this breed was sold for $1 million. According to NUR.KZ, citing Sputnik-Kyrgyzstan, farmers from five countries took part in the event, reports infohub.kz.
The sale was reported by Kyrgyzstan's Ministry of Agriculture. According to available data, the expensive sire is the son of the famous ram Frankel. In 2023, Frankel was sold to Kazakhstan for $150,000.
"Frankel is considered one of the well-known representatives of the Kyrgyz Arashan breed. He was raised in the Talas jailoo. The Arashan breed was officially registered in Kyrgyzstan in 2021. It was developed by crossing the Hissar and Kyrgyz coarse-wool breeds. It was previously reported that farmers from Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are interested in the breed," the statement said.
It is noted that in March 2026, the head of Kyrgyzstan's Ministry of Agriculture proposed creating a state platform for trading breeding sheep of the Arashan breed in the format of an auction or exchange.
