A Chinese delegation has expressed interest in opening production facilities and building a transport and logistics hub in the Almaty Region. The potential projects were discussed with regional akim Chingis Arinov at the Sokol sports and technical complex in the Ili district, the website infohub.kz reports.

The delegation was led by Tong Xiaojia, head of the people's government of the Xuanwu district of Nanjing, Jiangsu province. He was joined by representatives of Chinese state agencies, businesses and the Energy Center of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Sokol general director Dastan Ibragimov also took part in the talks.

The Chinese partners expressed interest in joint investment projects in the region with the involvement of the complex's management. Several areas were discussed: urban development projects, the opening of large and small production facilities, and the construction of a transport and logistics hub.

Chingis Arinov said the region was ready to consider concrete proposals and to work with investors on a long-term basis. He added that the authorities did not intend to divide them into large and small. Cooperation will be assessed by results: how much money was attracted and which of the announced projects were implemented.

The regional head also noted that the region was interested not only in large-scale construction and production. Developing small and medium-sized businesses also remains one of its priorities.

The participants separately discussed the future of Sokol: how the sports and technical complex could be developed and what role it could play in joint projects with Chinese partners.

The talks so far have covered possible areas of cooperation. The report does not mention any agreements being signed, the cost of the projects or their launch dates.
