Armenia's anti-corruption drive has reached another former president. Serzh Sargsyan, the country's third president, was summoned to the Anti-Corruption Committee and charged, according to infohub.kz.
Sargsyan arrived at the committee as former President Robert Kocharyan, leader of the opposition Armenia bloc, was detained. When asked about the case, Sargsyan said, "I don't know."
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had ordered law enforcement to seize property belonging to both Kocharyan and Sargsyan, News.am reported. The Anti-Corruption Committee told the outlet that Sargsyan is charged with abuse of power or exceeding official authority.
In total, nine individuals face public prosecution, including Kocharyan's son Sedrak, former Prime Minister Andranik Margaryan, and former Yerevan Mayor Gagik Beglaryan.
Earlier, Kocharyan was detained and taken to the Anti-Corruption Committee, with his representatives confirming the arrest. The committee later confirmed that Kocharyan and his son are suspected of corruption, including embezzlement of state property and large-scale bribery.
