World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka advanced to the semifinals of the 2026 US Open tennis tournament, reports infohub.kz.
In the quarterfinals, the Belarusian faced Czech Linda Noskova, ranked sixth in the world and the reigning Wimbledon champion. The match went the full three sets, with two decided by tiebreaks. Sabalenka won 7:6 (7:1), 3:6, 7:6 (10:7). The players spent 2 hours and 22 minutes on court.
This is Sabalenka's sixth consecutive appearance in the US Open semifinals. She has won this Grand Slam tournament in the previous two seasons.
In the next round, Sabalenka will face the winner of the match between Americans Jessica Pegula and Emma Navarro.
Following the US Open, Sabalenka is highly likely to lose her world No. 1 ranking. Only by defending her title would she retain a chance at the top spot, provided that her rivals—Pegula, fellow American Coco Gauff, and Kazakhstan's Elena Rybakina—do not achieve suitable results.
