In the Kazakh capital, reconstruction of the old Astana-1 railway station is proceeding at an accelerated pace. Upon completion, the station's area will increase by 500 square meters, reaching 8,700 square meters, according to infohub.kz.
Currently, work is underway on the roof and facade, as well as the reconstruction of the platform and concourse. Interior finishing, along with installation of water supply, sewage, heating, power supply, ventilation, and communication systems, is being carried out in parallel. A total of 255 specialists and 12 pieces of construction equipment are involved in the reconstruction.
The Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan promises that after the work is completed, the station will meet modern safety, comfort, and accessibility standards. New escalators, elevators, and lifting platforms will be installed for passengers, along with ramps, mother-and-child rooms, modern restrooms, and waiting areas.
"As part of the modernization, modern video surveillance, fire alarm, access control, and passenger notification systems are being introduced. Additionally, new LED screens are being installed, and voice announcement systems, furniture, and technological equipment are being updated," the ministry said.
The passenger flow at Astana-1 station exceeded 1.8 million people over the first seven months of 2026. Of these, over 908,000 passengers departed from the capital, while more than 977,000 arrived in Astana.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that the contractor for the Astana-1 station was instructed to speed up work to meet deadlines.
