A pilot project using artificial intelligence to authenticate passengers biometrically is set to launch at the capital's airport. The new technology is expected to speed up service, streamline pre-flight procedures and at the same time raise security levels, infohub.kz reports.

The project was initiated by Kazakhstan's Ministry of Transport. It was developed under orders on the digital transformation of government agencies and in line with the provisions of the Digital Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The pilot calls for biometric authentication of passengers using artificial intelligence technologies directly at Astana airport. The system will use biometric data to confirm passengers' identities at the relevant stages of service.

The introduction of biometric authentication is expected to cut passenger service times and streamline pre-flight procedures. The use of modern digital technologies should also help improve security at the airport.

Astana will thus become a testing ground for the practical trial of AI-based biometric passenger identification. The results of the pilot will make it possible to assess the effectiveness of the new approach and its prospects for wider use in passenger service.
