The Executive Committee of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has selected the Astana Arena as the venue for the 2028 UEFA Super Cup. The decision was made on September 15 at an Executive Committee meeting in Thessaloniki, and Kazakhstan will host the match for this trophy for the first time in its history, reports infohub.kz.
According to the report, the 2027 match will take place at the Johan Cruyff Arena in Amsterdam, and a year later the trophy will be contested in the Kazakh capital.
The Super Cup traditionally opens the new season of European club competitions. The winners of the previous season's Champions League and Europa League meet in a single match. Since 2013, the venue of the match has changed every year.
The exact date of the 2028 UEFA Super Cup has not yet been announced.
At the UEFA Executive Committee meeting, the hosts of other European finals were also determined. The 2028 Champions League final will be held in Munich, and in 2029 the decisive match will take place at Camp Nou in Barcelona. The Europa League finals in those years will be held in Bucharest and Belgrade, respectively.
The Astana Arena opened in 2009 and seats about 30,000 spectators. The stadium features a retractable roof, is the home arena of the Astana football club, and also hosts matches of the Kazakhstan national team. It has repeatedly staged Champions League and Europa League matches.
The most recent UEFA Super Cup was held in August 2026 in Salzburg. PSG beat Aston Villa 2-1 and claimed the trophy for the second year in a row.
