Residents of an apartment building in Astana at 24B Tauelsizdik Avenue are raising alarms over the critical condition of the structure's load-bearing elements. On August 30, 2026, residents gathered outside the building, joined by representatives of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, police, and ambulance services, reports infohub.kz.
Video messages have appeared on social media in which residents express fear of staying in their apartments due to rapidly spreading cracks and shifting wall panels.
According to apartment owners, the structure is deteriorating before their eyes, and previously installed monitoring beacons are recording the dynamics of the damage.
"The brick has shifted by seven to eight centimeters. We are afraid to spend the night in our apartments because a collapse could happen. The panels have shifted, and cracks are appearing. The installed beacon showed a gap of 3 millimeters in just two weeks. A crack has also appeared on the load-bearing wall near the elevator, and the beam has sagged. At night, people heard a loud crackling sound," residents reported.
The residents are urging state and municipal authorities to take immediate action and conduct a detailed technical inspection of the building to determine its safety for habitation.
The editorial board has requested information from the city administration (akimat) on this matter.
It is worth noting that this is the same building where a tragic incident occurred earlier: paramedic Uldana Myrzuan died while on duty.
It should be noted that the trial regarding the death of 23-year-old Uldana Myrzuan, an ambulance paramedic, has taken an unexpected turn. While the court proceedings are ongoing inside, dozens of chairpersons of property owners' associations (OSI) from Astana have gathered outside to support their colleague on trial and to highlight a systemic problem in the legislation.
