Astana's municipal bus fleet plans to sell 21 decommissioned buses, including three damaged by fire, through an open auction. The decision was made at a general shareholders' meeting of JSC "Bus Park No. 1" on July 23. The total estimated value of the vehicles is 264.9 million tenge, averaging 12.6 million tenge per unit, according to infohub.kz.
According to the official decision, the sale of 21 vehicles has been approved, which have been taken out of service, are morally obsolete, and unfit for further use due to non-compliance with the requirements of the Transport Rules. Restoration of these buses has been deemed unprofitable. The list also includes three buses (frames) that became unusable after a major fire.
If any lots do not find a buyer during the auction, they will be written off and sent for scrap metal. Additionally, the shareholders' meeting approved the company's development plan for the second half of 2026, but details of this plan have not been disclosed.
Financial indicators of "Bus Park No. 1" show significant losses: for 2025, the net loss amounted to 5.53 billion tenge, slightly less than the 5.58 billion tenge in 2024. The company's revenue increased from 12.1 billion tenge to 14.6 billion tenge, but the cost of transportation also rose from 43.6 billion to 53.5 billion tenge. Other income of the bus fleet amounted to 38.9 billion tenge in 2024 and 32.4 billion tenge in 2025. At the end of 2025, the uncovered loss reached 50.9 billion tenge.
The sole shareholder of the bus fleet, on behalf of the Astana akimat, is the state institution "Department of Transport and Development of Road Transport Infrastructure of Astana city". "Bus Park No. 1" is the largest bus fleet in the capital. However, the rolling stock for city and suburban routes is provided by another akimat company, City Transportation System (CTS), while the bus fleet itself provides the personnel for maintenance.
On March 31, 2025, "Bus Park No. 1" signed a financial leasing agreement with the "Industrial Development Fund" for the purchase of 300 Yutong gas buses. The total contract value was 26.56 billion tenge, of which 8.9 billion tenge (30%) was paid as an advance. Thus, each bus cost the fleet 88.5 million tenge.
