Akmara Karabaliyeva, a tower crane operator from Astana who lost her leg in an emergency on August 31, is demanding lifetime support, infohub.kz reports.
The tragedy occurred on August 31 when a tower crane collapsed during dismantling in Astana. A mechanic died on the spot, and the operator's right leg was amputated.
Akmara Karabaliyeva, who is raising three children alone, insists on being provided with lifetime support.
"We removed one section of the tower crane. Then someone shouted over the radio: 'Let's do two at a time, no need to mess around!' One of the mechanics said: 'Tate, we're going to get shaken now, don't be afraid.' The crane shook so hard that I flew up! The next thing I knew, I was on the operating table. Painkillers don't help me. Sometimes the pain is so bad that I even asked Allah to take me," the woman says.
The crane operator says her employer bought her a wheelchair and promised compensation of three monthly salaries. However, Akmara Karabaliyeva demands lifetime support because she has been left unable to work. According to the woman, she recently bought an apartment in installments. The debt for the housing exceeds 19 million tenge.
"A specialized organization was brought in to determine the immediate cause of the crane collapse. To date, the conclusion has not yet been received; it is still in progress. The employee was officially employed, and there is an insurance contract. Based on the investigation results, an act will be issued and sent to the insurance company for insurance payments," says Rustam Zhandosov, head of the department of the committee for state labor inspection in Astana.
In addition, after disability is established, a medical and social examination will determine the degree of Akmara Karabaliyeva's loss of ability to work. This will determine the amount of the monthly benefit the employer will pay her until she reaches retirement age.
