A dormitory commandant at a university in the capital collected 14,300 tenge a month from students and staff for five years, claiming management had ordered it. The court found she also registered foreigners using forged documents for money, infohub.kz reports.
The case was heard by the Interdistrict Criminal Court of Astana. The woman was charged under three articles of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan: "infliction of property damage by deception," "forgery of an official document," and "organization of illegal migration."
The court proved that university management had not instructed the commandant to collect money. The damage from her actions exceeded 3 million tenge.
"The material damage caused has not been compensated," the court said.
In addition, according to case materials, the woman forged university documents and sent requests from her work computer to the "Corporation for Citizens" to register foreigners for a year.
From September 16, 2024, to February 13, 2025, 57 people were registered in the dormitory this way. The commandant received 40,000 tenge for each.
The defendant pleaded not guilty and asked to be acquitted. The prosecutor sought four years in prison.
In the end, the court sentenced the woman to two years in a penal colony and banned her from holding positions involving organizational and economic functions for three years.
"In passing the sentence, the court took into account that the woman has a minor child and had not been previously convicted. The victim's civil claim was satisfied," the court's press service said.
The sentence has not yet entered into legal force.
