A nighttime drive in a Hyundai ended in a police case for a 37-year-old Astana resident: the car was sent to an impound lot and the case file went to court, the website infohub.kz reports.

According to the Astana Police Department, officers from a patrol police regiment stopped a Hyundai. The incident was recorded at around 04:20 a.m. on Seifullin Street toward Ualikhanov Street. A 37-year-old woman was behind the wheel.

"When checking her documents, a strong smell of alcohol came from the driver, so she was sent for a medical examination. The results of the medical examination established that the woman was in a state of mild alcohol intoxication," police said.

Based on this information, a protocol was drawn up against the driver under Part 1 of Article 608 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The car was sent to an impound lot.

The case materials have been sent to Astana's Specialized Interdistrict Court for Administrative Offenses.

"We urge citizens to strictly observe traffic rules and not to drive while intoxicated. Drunk driving poses a threat to the life and health of road users," law enforcement officials reminded.
