A court in the Kazakh capital has ordered a man held in administrative detention after he drunkenly followed a woman he did not know and harassed her in public, the website infohub.kz reports.

According to case materials, the incident took place on the morning of 12 October 2026. At around 08:10, citizen A., who was intoxicated, followed a woman unknown to him, identified as Zh., from public transport all the way to her workplace. Throughout the journey he repeatedly demanded her phone number and committed indecent acts.

In court, the Kazakh citizen pleaded guilty. His involvement was confirmed by the case file, including his own statements, the administrative offence report, video recordings and the victim's complaint.

Part 1 of Article 434 of the Code of Administrative Offences provides for a fine of 20 monthly calculation indices, community service of 20 to 60 hours, or administrative arrest of 5 to 10 days.

"The court found citizen A. guilty of petty hooliganism and imposed an administrative arrest of 10 days. In setting the penalty, the court took into account the nature of the offence, that it was committed while intoxicated, the prolonged stalking of the victim and the infringement of her personal inviolability. The court ruling has not yet entered into force," the court said.

It was reported earlier that a resident of Astana had turned to the police after encountering inappropriate behaviour by a man. Social media users wrote that he "touched her intimate parts and fled." The city's Police Department said at the time that a check was under way. It later emerged that a suspect, a 27-year-old man, had been detained.
