Residents and guests of Astana have been reminded that new rules for riding electric scooters will come into effect on August 25, as reported by infohub.kz.
According to information published on the website of the Astana akimat, starting August 25, 2026, electric scooters will be banned from sidewalks and pedestrian walkways. Users will be required to ride only on bicycle lanes and bike paths, or, in their absence, along the right edge of the roadway or on the shoulder, as stipulated by traffic rules.
Nurlan Uvayev, head of the Administrative Police Department of the Astana Police Department, noted that electric scooters have long become full-fledged participants in road traffic, but non-compliance by users with established requirements poses a threat to the safety of both the riders of personal mobility devices and other road users. According to him, the changes to traffic rules are aimed at improving safety and reducing accidents.
The police added that when riding on the roadway, an e-scooter rider must be at least 18 years old, hold a driver's license of any category, and wear a protective helmet. At night, reflective elements are also required.
Prosecutors in Astana noted that the most common violations by e-scooter users include riding on the roadway without a driver's license, speeding, and failing to comply with requirements when crossing intersections. Transporting passengers on a single scooter poses a particular danger.
Recall that from July 1, new rules for riding electric scooters came into force in Kazakhstan, introducing requirements for age, licenses, and insurance. Later, the Ministry of Internal Affairs announced that from August 25, e-scooters would also be banned from sidewalks.
