Kazakhstan's capital plans to build a new eight-lane bridge across the Yesil River, linking the left and right banks of Astana. The project is conceived as an extension of Huseyn bin Talal Street from Al-Farabi Avenue to Sh. Kaldayakov Street, according to infohub.kz.

The Astana akimat's transport and road infrastructure development department said the city's general development plan provides for extending Huseyn bin Talal Street from Al-Farabi Avenue to Sh. Kaldayakov Street. "A road bridge is envisaged where Huseyn bin Talal Street crosses the Yesil River," the department said.

The new thoroughfare is expected to create an additional through transport corridor between the capital's left and right banks and redistribute traffic flows away from the busiest city arteries, in particular Syganak Street and Uly Dala Avenue.

Drivers heading toward the new Nurly Zhol railway station or the Almaty district will be able to use the Huseyn bin Talal extension. Part of the flow will also be diverted away from one of the main arteries on the left bank, Mangilik El Avenue. The Arys bridge across the Yesil River on Syganak Street and the bridge across the Yesil River on Tauelsizdik Avenue will also see relief. The redistribution of flows will ease the load at bridge entrances and exits during peak hours.

Under the design plans, Huseyn bin Talal Street is classified as a citywide main street and will have eight lanes of traffic.

"The investor is currently developing the project for the construction of the bridge across the Yesil River. The cost of building the bridge will be determined once the design is completed and a state expert review opinion is obtained," the department said.

After the investor transfers the completed project to the city's balance sheet, the transport department will consider the further implementation of the facility using state funds. The contractor is expected to be selected through public procurement.

However, there are no specific timelines yet for the construction and commissioning of the bridge.
