Astana has held a farewell ceremony for Rzagul Baikeshev, a participant of the Great Patriotic War, who was considered the last frontline veteran of the city. The veteran passed away at the age of 103, reports infohub.kz.
Representatives of the Ministry of Defense, Secretary of the Astana City Maslikhat Zeynulkabden Tabigat, Akim of the Almaty district of Astana Rustembek Tauekelov, commanders of military units of the Akmola garrison, representatives of veteran organizations, as well as relatives and friends of the deceased came to pay their respects.
On behalf of the Minister of Defense, Lieutenant Colonel Serik Kassenov, head of the defense affairs department of the Almaty district of Astana, conveyed deep condolences to the veteran's family.
The mourning ceremony was held with the participation of a guard of honor and a military orchestra. A funeral prayer was performed in memory of the veteran.
Rzagul Baikeshev was born on October 18, 1923, in the Mugalzhar district of the Aktobe region. As part of the Soviet troops, he took part in battles near Rzhev, in the Velikie Luki offensive operation, marched through Poland and Hungary, and met Victory in Berlin.
Rzagul Baikeshev's heroism and courage were marked with the Order of the Patriotic War, 1st and 2nd class, as well as other state awards.
The veteran found his final resting place in the village of Kabanbay Batyr in the Akmola region (formerly Rozhdestvenka), where he worked for many years as a forwarding agent at a state farm. In honor of the soldier of Victory, the salute team fired three volleys.
The bright memory of his feat and worthy life path will forever remain in history and in the hearts of descendants.
