Heavy smoke rising above the roof of a building in Kazakhstan's capital alarmed Astana residents, but it turned out the source was an exhaust pipe at a food service establishment, reports infohub.kz.
Information that firefighters were working on the roof of a building on Imanova Street appeared on the Telegram channel Astanovka98. The author of the post said he had observed the extinguishing of heavy smoke and suggested the roof of the building was on fire.
For clarification, a NUR.KZ correspondent contacted the Astana Emergency Situations Department. Officials there specified that on September 10 at 12:55, a call came in to the 112 hotline: smoke was coming from an exhaust pipe at 16 Imanova Street in the Baikonur district.
"Upon arrival of fire crews, it was established that on the first floor of a 3-story multi-apartment residential building, at a food service facility, grease deposits in the exhaust system had caught fire, with flames reaching the roof. The burning area was 0.5 square meters," the Emergency Situations Department explained.
The fire was completely extinguished. There are no dead or injured.
