In Astana, parents of students at a dombra club have fallen victim to alleged fraud involving a trip to Dubai for a competition, reports the website infohub.kz.
According to Polisia.kz, several parents approached the police. Preliminary data suggests that a 32-year-old man offered to arrange a trip to Dubai for the club's students, where they were to participate in a competition. He gained the parents' trust and received money from them in varying amounts.
To date, 11 episodes of fraudulent appropriation of funds have been identified, according to a police statement. A criminal case has been opened. A pre-trial investigation is underway to establish all circumstances and possible involvement of other individuals.
The police remind the public: before handing over money, verify the accuracy of the information provided, check documents and service conditions, and do not trust promises not backed by official documents. If in doubt, contact the police at "102," the department added.
