Kazakhstan's capital is heading into the upcoming heating season with a surplus of thermal capacity, as preparations at existing heat supply facilities near completion while construction and modernization of new heat sources continue, according to infohub.kz.

The official website of the Astana akimat reported that the city's centralized heating system currently comprises five main energy sources: CHP-1, CHP-2, CHP-3, and the gas-fired thermal stations Turan and Yugo-Vostok.

The akimat noted that the existing reserve is sufficient to get through the heating season and cover peak loads. At the same time, the city continues to expand capacity in light of population growth and ongoing development.

The coal-fired unit of CHP-3 is currently under construction. In addition, expansion and reconstruction of the hot-water boiler house at CHP-2 is ongoing, with the installation of boilers No. 7 and No. 8.

Another new facility will be the Telmana gas-fired thermal station with a capacity of 620 Gcal/h. It is scheduled to be commissioned in 2026.

According to the akimat, the launch of the station is expected to further increase the thermal capacity reserve and enhance the reliability of heat supply in the capital.

Earlier, Kursiv reported that the start of the heating season in Astana depends on the average daily temperature. A decision to supply heat is made if the air temperature remains at +10°C or below for five consecutive days.
