Astana Mayor Zhenis Kassymbek called on residents and visitors to treat public property with care and spoke out about vandals, infohub.kz reports.
Kassymbek posted his appeal on his official Instagram page, addressing cases of vandalism and "disrespect for public spaces." According to him, some individuals are breaking bus shelters, trash bins, benches, sculptures and other city property.
"Attitudes toward public property are a reflection of personal culture and upbringing. Everything that is created and improved in the city is done primarily for people's convenience. By damaging urban infrastructure, offenders cause harm not only to the city but also create inconvenience for all residents and visitors of the capital, including their own family and friends who walk these same streets every day," the post reads.
According to the mayor, 143 people have been held accountable for damaging or destroying others' and municipal property, and 928 administrative offenses related to littering public areas have been recorded.
"Antisocial acts will be punished severely, up to criminal liability. Parents of underage offenders will also be held accountable. I urge all residents and visitors of the capital to take care of our city — the place where we, our family and friends live," Kassymbek concluded.
