Early on October 3, Astana residents began posting on social media reports and videos of military vehicles on the capital's roads and closed streets. Kazakhstan's State Security Service said this was due to a series of international political events in the city on October 5–6, according to infohub.kz.
Threads user alldar.kose wrote: "Astana, what's going on? October 3, 04:00." Another user, Нat.store.lati, also posted a video of closed roads and military vehicles on Astana's streets, with the caption: "Morning commotion, who are we waiting for, anyone know?"
Later, the State Security Service issued an official statement published on its Instagram page. It said: "Due to a series of international political events in Astana on October 5-6, temporary restrictions on vehicle movement will be introduced on certain sections of the capital's streets. The events involve the use of resources from special state and law enforcement agencies and the Armed Forces of Kazakhstan. We ask residents and guests of the capital to understand the security measures being taken during this important international event."
