Three professional cameras have been stolen from a mosque in Kazakhstan's capital. Police have detained a suspect, a 29-year-old city resident, the website infohub.kz reports.

According to the Astana Police Department, officers identified and detained a 29-year-old man suspected of stealing three Canon 6D cameras.

"According to preliminary information, the man entered the mosque without hindrance, then went into a utility room and, finding photographic equipment in one of the rooms, stole it. He later sold the stolen cameras and spent the proceeds on personal needs. The suspect's identity was established during operational search activities," police said.

The arrest took place in one of the capital's districts. The man has been placed in a temporary detention facility. A criminal case has been opened and a pre-trial investigation is underway.

"Free access to premises does not mean free access to other people's property. Unlawful appropriation of other people's belongings is punishable under the law," the Police Department said.
