Police in Astana have arrested a 29-year-old woman suspected of killing her newborn baby, whose body was discovered in a sewer manhole near a hotel that has long been a source of complaints from local residents, reports infohub.kz.
Earlier, residents of a district in the capital raised the alarm on social media after finding the body of a premature baby girl in the sewer close to residential buildings. Neighbors immediately suspected the involvement of guests at a nearby hotel, which has been the subject of complaints for years due to constant noise, fights, and suspicions of operating a drug den.
The Astana Police Department said the suspect had been identified and detained. "In connection with this incident, a 29-year-old woman has been detained. A pre-trial investigation is underway," the department stated.
The high-profile case also prompted police to look into the hotel itself, which had long caused inconvenience for local residents. The hotel owner received an official warning. "Due to the violations committed, the hotel owner has been issued a notice to eliminate the causes and conditions that facilitate criminal and other offenses," the police department added.
Earlier, it was reported that a pregnant woman was bitten by stray dogs in Kokshetau.
