Police in Astana uncovered what appeared to be a stash house for an online drug store, seizing more than 2,000 parcels of illicit substances from the apartment of a 33-year-old suspect, infohub.kz reports.

The man was detained on suspicion of storing and distributing drugs. During a personal search, officers found parcels containing a gray-green plant-based substance with a distinctive odor in his waist bag. An examination confirmed it was marijuana.

"During a search of the suspect's apartment, more than 2,000 parcels of a similar substance, wrapped in electrical tape of various colors, were discovered. In addition, containers with a liquid that, according to expert findings, is hashish oil were seized. The total weight of the seized drugs exceeded two kilograms," the Astana Police Department said.

According to police, the detainee served as a "stash" for an online store that distributed illicit substances via messaging apps. A medical examination also established that the man had used drugs.

A criminal case has been opened. Police are currently identifying other individuals who may be involved in drug trafficking.

The Astana Police Department reminded that the storage, sale, and distribution of illicit substances carry criminal liability.
