Kazakhstan's capital is planning to build three more light rail transit (LRT) lines under the Tarlan Astana project. One of them is already under construction towards the city of Kosshy, reports infohub.kz.
According to KTK TV channel, the total length of the new lines will be about 26.5 kilometers. The second line, 9 kilometers long, will include 9 stations and will run from Syganak Street through Turan and Saryarka Avenues to Zhenis Avenue, ending at the old railway station. The third line, almost 8.5 kilometers long, will also start near Syganak Street and run along it to Aitmatov Street, with 9 stations. A separate branch will connect Astana with Kosshy: its construction is already actively underway, with a length of 9 kilometers and three stations. Launch of service on this line is possible as early as next year, but as previously noted, this depends on funding.
Recall that on May 16, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev officially launched the LRT in Astana. Later it became known that construction of new lines is planned in the following directions: Astana-1 railway station, Zhagalau residential area, and the city of Kosshy. This year, construction work also began towards Kosshy.
