Paid parking in Astana has officially been transferred to the ownership of the city administration, and all revenue from it will now go to the local budget, the website infohub.kz reports.
According to Sedmoy Kanal, nothing has changed for drivers so far: the procedure is the same — park, pay, leave. The price has also stayed the same — 100 tenge per hour. The only difference is that all revenue from paid parking now goes to the local budget, and in return the city administration promises to increase the number of parking spaces.
"Today Astana has more than 530 parking zones with more than 10,000 parking spaces. We are now considering adding more than 1,000 more spaces. This is because demand is growing in certain sections of the road network," said Ruslan Abdualiyev, deputy director of Astana's traffic management center.
The changes will not be limited to the number of parking spaces. All of them are to be upgraded, and leaving cars across the markings will now be prohibited. A new app has also been launched for drivers that immediately shows the parking number and its location on a map. The usual payment methods and QR codes on information boards remain the same.
Drivers themselves have mixed feelings about the changes. Some believe parking fees should go to the budget, while others see no point in paying for a space.
"The money will go to the state, not to a private individual. And they will probably still spend it somewhere," one driver says.
"We park and pay for everything. It would be good if parking spaces were not paid, because there is so much land for us, and it is paid — I think that's wrong," another notes.
"I think it's right. The money they charge us for parking will go where it should. I agree with that," a third says.
At the same time, the city administration will not say how much Astana Parking Space has earned over the years. It notes that the reorganization is still under way, so there are no exact figures. But for the capital's drivers, the main thing remains unchanged for now — parking is still paid, but the management system is now becoming state-run.
Recall that in December 2025, the capital's administration and Astana Parking Space LLP signed a preliminary agreement to transfer 100% of the company's stake to the city administration free of charge. Astana Akim Zhenis Kassymbek then explained how paid parking would be run after the transfer to the administration. According to him, many spaces will be completely free.
