As autumn holidays approach for schoolchildren in Kazakhstan, police officers have urged parents to step up supervision of their children, the website infohub.kz reports.

The Astana Police Department noted that the holidays are a period when parents and legal guardians need to pay heightened attention to their children, since schoolchildren have more free time.

"In order to prevent offenses among minors, ensure their safety and avert incidents, the Astana police urge parents to pay special attention to organizing their children's leisure time and to monitoring their whereabouts and social circle. Particular attention must be paid to compliance with the restrictions established by law on minors' presence outside the home and in entertainment venues at night," the police said.

In addition, parents are advised to regularly hold preventive talks with their children about the need to observe public order, traffic rules and legal requirements.

The Astana Police Department also added that it is important to explain to minors the inadmissibility of taking part in conflicts, unlawful actions and other situations that could pose a threat to their life and health.
