In Astana, the renovation of a building facade with stucco molding on Kenesary Street has sparked outrage from a local woman who voiced her complaints publicly on the social network Threads. The author of the post was particularly concerned that the city's Urbanism Center is involved in the work, reports infohub.kz.
"I can't believe you're involved in this! You've done so many wonderful projects in Astana, and this is how you treat the architecture on Kenesary? Rebar in molding that has survived for decades but won't survive your renovation?" the woman wrote.
In response, the Astana Urbanism Center assured that all architectural details and stucco elements will be preserved.
"They were pre-scanned and are now being recreated in the original design using natural stone. Currently, these elements are in the manufacturing stage. Work on the facade is still ongoing, so what you see now is far from the final result," the Urbanism Center said.
The woman asked why the original molding couldn't be restored to keep the building as the architect intended.
"In Astana's conditions, a plaster facade is unfortunately short-lived and eventually cracks and peels. Therefore, a more durable solution with natural stone has been chosen here, while all architecture and decorative elements are preserved. Plus, the entire building is being comprehensively renovated, including the roof. Let's wait for the work to be completed and then evaluate the result," the center replied to the post's author.
