A 35-year-old man has been detained in Astana on suspicion of 20 counts of fraud. According to police, he promised residents favorable housing deals, reports infohub.kz.
Police said the suspect spread word about his "services" mainly through word of mouth, posing as an expert in state housing programs and preferential lending. He offered victims apartments at low interest rates, requiring advance payment. However, he spent the money on personal needs without fulfilling his obligations.
The investigation established his involvement in 20 fraud cases. The material damage to one victim amounted to 1.5 million tenge. The suspect fully confessed.
