Kazakhstan's capital will get a second airport, to be built by a Singaporean state-owned company. Construction is set to begin in 2027, and a framework agreement has already been signed, according to infohub.kz.
The Ministry of Transport said the document was signed with Changi Airports International (CAI), a subsidiary of Changi Airport Group. The agreement covers the development of the capital's airport infrastructure.
"The parties agreed to cooperate on the implementation of a project to build a new airport in Astana. The project is being carried out as part of the execution of the instruction of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Qasym-Jomart Toqaev, to create an international aviation hub and develop Astana's transit potential," the ministry said in a statement.
In addition to the new facility, the parties agreed to cooperate with Changi Airports International on the existing Astana International Airport. This involves the company's participation in management, operations and maintenance (O&M), and other areas of the airport's further development.
Changi Airport Group (CAG) is a Singaporean state-owned company responsible for managing and developing the country's airport infrastructure, including Changi International Airport. The airport is among the world's leading international aviation hubs. In 2025, it handled about 70 million passengers and more than 2 million tonnes of cargo, connecting Singapore with more than 170 cities worldwide. In addition, Changi has been named "World's Best Airport" 14 times by the Skytrax World Airport Awards, including in 2025 and 2026.
Recall that last summer, Qasym-Jomart Toqaev announced the imminent construction of a second airport in Astana.
