A resident of Astana has proposed equipping the capital's smart cameras with microphones to automatically fine drivers for exceeding permissible noise levels at night. According to him, the roar of cars and motorcycles keeps thousands of citizens awake, reports infohub.kz.
The author of the idea notes that every summer, the city's streets turn into a nighttime track for races and competitions of "whose engine is louder." Families with young children, the elderly, and those who work suffer the most from such midnight entertainment.
"We have already installed thousands of smart cameras that automatically detect speeding, seatbelt violations, and other offenses. Why not equip some of them with certified microphones to also detect excessive noise?" he proposed.
If a car or motorcycle exceeds the noise limit at night, its owner would be automatically fined. The initiator sees several advantages: quieter streets, fewer night races, and additional budget revenue without introducing new taxes.
"Of course, this requires clear regulations, certified equipment, and a transparent appeals process. But the technology already exists," the author concluded.
Earlier it was reported that cameras in Astana began recording a new violation at pedestrian crossings.
