A court in Kazakhstan's capital has sentenced a young man to 10 days of administrative arrest for relieving himself near a nightclub, the website infohub.kz reports.

Astana police had earlier detained the 20-year-old man for urinating in a public place. Video of the incident was posted on the social network Threads.

The Astana courts' Telegram channel said on Thursday that the case had been heard by the capital's specialized inter-district court for administrative offenses under Part 1 of Article 434 of the Code of Administrative Offenses (petty hooliganism).

"According to the circumstances of the case, at 05:00 on October 17, citizen A., while near a nightclub in the city of Astana, relieved himself in a public place, thereby disturbing public order. During the court hearing, citizen A. fully admitted guilt in committing the offense and repented of what he had done. He added that he had committed the act while intoxicated," the court's statement said.

Taking into account the nature of the offense and the circumstances of the case, the court found the man guilty of petty hooliganism and sentenced him to 10 days of administrative arrest.

The ruling has not yet entered into legal force.
