A court in Astana has handed down a guilty verdict to three participants in a scheme to illegally import 20 FAW trucks from China, according to infohub.kz.

As reported by NUR.KZ, citing the Main Transport Prosecutor's Office, authorities established that the vehicles actually met the Euro-2 emissions standard, but were declared as Euro-5 during customs clearance. Documents containing false information were used for this purpose.

"Between February and May 2023, 20 trucks were illegally imported into Kazakhstan through the Nur Zholy and Bakhty customs posts. Their customs value amounted to 285 million tenge. The vehicles were subsequently sold through commercial entities and supplied to QAZhService LLP under public procurement for a total of 605 million tenge," the supervisory authority said in a statement.

The court found the three defendants guilty of large-scale economic smuggling committed by a group in prior conspiracy.

In addition, the convicted individuals were ordered to pay 285 million tenge jointly to the state as the value of the smuggled goods.
