A tragedy at Astana's Perinatal Center: a pregnant woman carrying twins lost both of her children, and an internal investigation is now underway, reports infohub.kz.
The woman's relatives described what happened. A Threads user, ainarozyyeva, posted a detailed account outlining the chronology of events. According to her, "our Asel was pregnant with twins. Unfortunately, at six months we lost one. We were assured that she could carry the dead fetus to term, but a couple of weeks later she developed problems in her abdominal area. The skin first turned burgundy, then blue. Unfortunately, there are no photos. We started raising the alarm — the baby is decomposing, we need to save the living one, but no. First she was sent to a dermatologist, then treated with antibiotics, and when the tests peaked, Polyclinic No. 6 sent her through the portal to that ill-fated maternity hospital. They started taking tests — they were truly critical — but no one was going to perform a C-section or prevent further complications. Three days! They kept her for three days with terrible test results."
According to the author of the post, the decision to perform an emergency operation was made only after the pregnant woman's relatives contacted iKomek. "The operation was successful. He (the doctor — Ed.) extracted the dead baby without touching the placenta. The second baby was born at 31 weeks and weighed 1600 kg. Healthy and even cried. The doctor who performed the operation handled it professionally and said the baby was strong. But unfortunately, he lived only one day. Because of sepsis. Do you understand? Sepsis! Of course, sepsis. If you keep a living and a dead baby together for that long! Neither the polyclinic nor the hospital cared about the poor woman's mental state. We all ran around, begged, tried, complained, but the response was silence and a mocking attitude from the acting head (of the department — Ed.) of pathology at that hospital. Today my brother is burying both sons, and their mother lies in the hospital writing about how tired she is of everything. We fear for her, we fear for other women who will still give birth in this hospital! I ask the Ministry of Health to check this hospital! She is receiving no psychological support there at the moment, and she will have to stay there for a long time. When such grief happens, it turns out you don't know where to run or whom to ask for help so that everything is done humanely," wrote the Astana resident.
The Astana Akimat's Public Health Department responded to the post. "The Public Health Department of the city of Astana reports that this case is under the department's control. Currently, the patient is in the postpartum ward, receiving necessary treatment and medical observation. An internal investigation is being conducted into this case. Based on the results of the investigation, an appropriate assessment will be given," the department said.
