While the owner of a Volkswagen Polo was talking to an acquaintance on the street, a luxury Valentino bag worth about 1 million tenge was stolen from the unlocked vehicle. The incident occurred in the Shubar microdistrict of Astana after dark, reports the website infohub.kz.

According to the Polisia.kz portal, the culprit quietly approached the unlocked car and took the bag from the front passenger seat. It contained 60,000 tenge and personal documents.

As a result of investigative measures, police identified the suspect and arrested him. The day after the theft, he had hidden the stolen bag but had already spent the cash. The evidence was confiscated and returned to the lawful owner.

The suspect has a prior criminal record for similar offenses. He is currently in a temporary detention facility. A pre-trial investigation into the theft is underway.

Law enforcement reminded that criminals often take advantage of even brief moments of inattention from vehicle owners. They urged people not to leave bags, money, documents, or other valuables in plain sight inside their cars. Even when stepping away for a few minutes, drivers should lock the doors and windows and engage the alarm.
