A video surveillance system in Astana identified a 24-year-old man who was wanted internationally. Police officers verified the data and detained him, according to infohub.kz.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs' official website, the digital video monitoring system helped law enforcement locate the wanted individual. The technology is used for facial recognition and locating citizens.
"The system automatically matches images against data contained in information databases. The search is conducted not only by photograph but also by external features — gender, age, the presence of a beard, glasses, a mask, or headwear. In addition, the technology allows tracking the movement of an identified person via surveillance cameras," the statement said.
The effectiveness of the digital solution is confirmed by concrete results. "Thus, during video monitoring, the system identified a 24-year-old man who was wanted internationally on suspicion of theft. The information was verified by police officers, after which the man was detained. Police note that the introduction of modern video monitoring systems is aimed at strengthening public safety, timely identification of wanted persons, and improving the efficiency of law enforcement agencies," police added.
