As infohub.kz reports, citing the official website of the capital's akimat, about a thousand special window restrictors will be installed in Astana homes with children to reduce the risk of minors falling out.
The preventive campaign "Safe Window" is organized by Astana's emergency situations department in cooperation with police and volunteers. Mobile teams, following a pre-compiled list, visit multi-story buildings and mount devices that do not allow windows to be opened completely.
Ali Argynbayev, an engineer of the emergency situations department, explained that with the arrival of warm weather, the risk of children falling out of windows increases. Specialists are deployed across the city's districts to cover as many residential buildings as possible.
"As of today, we have about a thousand restrictors for installation across the city. However, the work will not stop here; we will continue to expand coverage. Similar events were held last year, and we will continue this work together with local executive bodies," said Ali Argynbayev.
Specialists urged parents not to leave children unattended even for a short time. The emergency situations department reminded that a mosquito net does not protect a child from falling, and furniture that a child could climb should not be placed near windows.
Organizers intend to continue the installation of restrictors. Families that already have blockers in their homes note the importance of the campaign, especially for apartments where several children are being raised.
Earlier, "Kursiv" reported that in Astana, four children fell out of high-rise windows in a single day. Two of them died, and two others were hospitalized in serious condition. According to the city's health department, there have been 60 such cases since the beginning of the year, with nine children dying before an ambulance arrived.
