A woman was attacked with a knife in the courtyard of a residential building in Astana on Tuesday and died from her injuries at the scene. The city police department reported the incident, according to infohub.kz.
The incident was first reported on the Telegram channel Shyndyk.kz. According to the channel, the woman, born in 1996, was attacked with a knife in a courtyard in Astana. "According to preliminary information, the woman was parking her car in the courtyard when a man attacked her with a knife. Witnesses said he fled after the attack. According to neighbors, the victim may have known the attacker. He is believed to be her ex-husband. The woman leaves behind two children," the post said.
According to the Telegram channel "Astana — What? Where? When?", a man was detained who, based on the post, was the ex-husband of the victim.
The press service of the Astana Police Department told a NUR.KZ correspondent that at around 8:00 p.m. on September 23, police received a report of an attack on a woman. "Police officers arrived at the scene immediately. It was established that the man inflicted knife wounds on the woman," the department said.
The victim died at the scene from her injuries. The suspect was promptly detained and placed in a temporary detention facility. A criminal case has been opened for murder, and a set of investigative measures is underway.
The police department also denied information that the suspected killer was a law enforcement officer. "We state that the circulating information that the suspect is a police officer is untrue. The investigation is under the special control of the leadership of the Police Department. The guilty party will be held accountable to the full extent of the law," the department added.
