Police have shut down a channel for supplying psychotropic substances from Astana to Taldykorgan and detained a suspect, infohub.kz reports.

According to the department's official Instagram page, a complex of operational and investigative measures by officers of the Drug Crime Counteraction Department of the Jetisu Region Police Department, together with officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Astana Police Department, disrupted the supply of a large batch of psychotropic substances from the capital to Taldykorgan.

"Information about the impending delivery was obtained through operational means. During further work, police identified the participants and the circumstances of the alleged movement of the banned substances. In Astana, police officers stopped a car driven by a 32-year-old native of Taraz. During a search of the vehicle, two packages containing a powdery substance were found under the cover of the rear passenger seat," the Jetisu Region Police Department said.

The investigation seized 2 kg 148 g of mephedrone and 506 g of a-PVP.

However, the department noted, the operational work did not end there. During further measures, the detainee gave a confession and pointed to the location of an alleged stash intended for distribution. When inspecting the indicated area, police found another package of a psychotropic substance weighing 992 g (a-PVP).

Thus, 3 kg 646 g of psychotropic substances intended for further distribution were removed from illegal circulation.

A pre-trial investigation is underway. The suspect is in custody.
